Foreign buyers prefer PH food products

More Philippine food products have captured the interest of foreign buyers due to their good quality.

The Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) reported that best-selling local food items during the recent Anuga international food and beverage fair in Germany included banana chips, canned tuna, spices, coconut, dried mango and seasonings.

"Most of the buyers commented that they prefer foods from Philippines because of their good taste/texture and the color is so natural," it said.

Citing the buyers, the report said price was not really an issue as the quality of the products was what important to them. This, as Philippine food products were a little bit expensive compared to other Asian food products.

The CITEM said the country received inquiries from buyers for other products, including fresh fruits such as mango, banana and pineapple; fresh seafood such as pangasius and tilapia; and avocado powder.

To boost product's sales, the market report urged the need to improve packaging design.

"The packaging design should not be so colorful because it makes them look cheap, while the materials of the packaging should be ecofriendly. This is the most acceptable packaging in Europe and in other countries as well since most countries are into natural and organic, healthy products," it added.
