US to implement 100% scanning of incoming cargo in 2012 PDF  | Print |  E-mail

The United States is set to implement in 2012 its law on the "Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11Commission Act". The act mandates 100 percent scanning of maritime cargo before it is loaded onto vessels in foreign ports heading for the United States.

PHILEXPORT, in various occasions, have formalized its request for the possible exemption of PHILEXPORT members in good standing from this procedure, as this can cause delay and additional costs to them.

The Bureau of Customs, through Atty. Ma. Lourdes Mangaoang, the National Project Head of the X-Ray Inspection Project, committed to seriously consider this recommendation, except for members with derogatory records with the BOC.To facilitate the evaluation, Atty. Mangaoang requested that PHILEXPORT submit a list of PHILEXPORT members in good standing with the following details per member:

1. list of imported products/raw materials and country of origin (for finalexports to the US)
2. list of exported products to the United States.

Philexport National office drafted a simple form to help in the submission oft hese lists.
