The Bureau of Plant and Industry (BPI) Office in Manila issued a memorandum to all AFAS-registered treatment providers about the mandatory supervision of all AFAS MB fumigation activities for the first 6 months of its registration.

The memorandum dated 27 May 2009 signedby BPI Director Joel Rodinas, CESO IV provided as follows:

As per BPI Quarantine Administrative Order No. 1, Series of 2008 re“Guidelines  for     the implementation of the Australian Fumigation Accreditation Scheme (AFAS) in the Philippines,”mandatory supervision will be done by AFAS Accredited Officers on all fumigations conducted by the registered treatment providers for the first 6months from registration.

However, after the first 6 months, the registered treatment provider will be subjected to random monitoring only but is instructed to inform the Plant Quarantine Service of the schedule at least 48 hours before the conduct of any AFAS MBfumigations.

In Cebu, the only two (2) treatment companies that are AFAS-registered are: MandaueModern Pest Control and Colonie Pest Control. Both fumigation companies are bonafidemembers of Philexport Cebu.
